Now a days we can see that the fertile lands are converting into Drylands. Due to monsoon failures, so that the farmers facing a lot of problem with these drylands. The farmers can come up with many alternatives to convert the drylands into productive areas.
Farmers those who depend on rainfall must conserve every drop of water. They should perform Mixed cropping and growth of trees.
Farmers should grow the crops which are resistant to drought conditions and which require less water for production purpose.
Farmers should dig small ponds in their fields and those ponds which are helpful to store rainwater and that rainwater can be utilized for growing of fishes like grass carper, Mirghal, Rohu, etc to get additional income.
GROWING OF AZOLLA IN PONDS
The farmers who have cattle can grow Azolla in the ponds. That Azolla can be used as cattle feed and poultry feed. Azolla which is helpful to increase the milk yield in cattle and also egg laying in hens. The dung which has been obtained from cattle can be applied in the fields within 5years we can see their lands are converted into productive areas.
Farmers can use dried fallen leaves as a mulching agent which is helpful to prevent evaporation of moisture from the soil and also acts as an effective weed suppressor.
